Electric RC Tank - The 1:16 Snow Leopard

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

If you are a military type-of-person, or enjoy heavy machinery used for war, an electric RC tank might perk your interest.

Electric RC Tanks come in several sizes and have many different features. Some of these features are: Infrared sensors and beams. Infrared is used for battling each other by shooting the “beams” at the other tank. A lot of the infrared sensor tanks come in a bundle of two so that you can get right into the action battling your friend. A good example of this would be “laser tag” with tanks. Another feature some tanks have is sound capability. With sound capability the tank emits sounds of war as you play with it. This could be cannon sounds, engine sounds, or machine gun sounds. My favorite feature is the ability to shoot BB’s from the cannon. Tanks with this feature can be loaded with plastic BB’s or pellets that it will shoot out of its cannon at the opposing tanks.

The Snow Leopard has several great features being a higher priced tank. It has sound capability, shoots plastic pellets, and has a movable turret so that your can turn on the spot and shoot the enemy. These are just a few of the features that it has.

The Snow Leopard electric RC tank is 18 inches long, 9 inches wide, 8 inches high, and weighs in around 18 pounds. It is powered by an electric motor and a 7.2 volt rechargeable battery which allows the tank to run for up to 30 minutes before recharging. The cannon is powered by an “Airsoft” gun motor and can fire the plastic pellets as far as 25 meters distance. The cannon also has an auto-reload feature making it easier to pump out round after round at your enemy. This tank comes “ready to battle”, meaning it is pre-assembled and pre-painted with a camouflage finish. It is controlled by a 3-channel remote system and a 2 speed electric motor. This tank has excellent maneuvering performance giving you an edge over your enemy. It has full motion functionality and the turret moves left, right, up, and down as well.

What comes with it? The 1:16 Snow Leopard comes with the tank, the remote (AA batteries not included), a 7.2 volt rechargeable battery pack and a battery charger adapter (110 volt), and even comes with a bag of plastic BB’s to get you started.

Who is it for? I would say that the 1:16 Snow Leopard is for people who like to re-enact war on a scale level, or just anyone who wants to battle with their friends. I would not recommend this for children under 10 due to the ability to shoot pellets which could cause harm if not careful.

RC SNOWMOBILES

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

So i was out wasting some time today on my day off, and decided to go for a drive. I drove up the North Ogden Canyon, and back down through the Ogden Canyon. As I was out enjoying the sites, the snow, the frozen lakes, and the white mountains, I noticed all the snowmobile activity on the frozen lake. This got my brain turning. Are there RC Snowmobiles? I did a little Google searching, and sure enough, if you think it, someone has made it. The first thing I found on Google was a cool video of a gas powered RC snowmobile. You can see the video on our home page. I have to admit, this video made me giggle with glee as I discovered another reason why I am into the RC hobby. So, for those that get a little bored during the winter season, RC snowmobiles can help you pass time with some excitement. These RC vehicles are another item on my list of things to obtain for my site, but you are welcome to search for them on Google. I found a couple of sites that sold both electric and gas powered RC snowmobiles in the range of $130 and up. Don’t forget to jump on our site and watch the cool video!

Nintendo Mario Kart RC Karts!

Mario Kart RC

Being of a younger generation, i have many fond memories of the video game system “Nintendo”. As Nintendo progressed, going from NES (Nintendo Entertainment System), to Super NES, i kept right up with it, always having the latest and greatest system. Now, having the newest system was a must as with the system came new games. When the Super NES came out, Nintendo released it’s mega-hit called Super Mario Kart. This game put multiplayer on the map, in my opinion, and many of my fondest memories are battling my friends on the various maps.

Super Mario Kart was a game including characters such as Mario, Luigi, Wario, Bowser, Princess Toadstool, and the rest of the classic Nintendo names. In this game, Mario and his friends were put onto Go Karts and the object was racing, simple as that. There were several different racing difficulties, and of course, there was multi-player battles. Most of the different “modes” had the capability of up to 4 players (the biggest thing about the Super NES). The game continued on with the next two Nintendo systems, Nintendo 64, and Nintendo Gamecube. There are also versions featured on the “portable” GameBoy systems, and the Nintendo Wii version should be released this year. As you can see, this is a very popular and fun filled game, which brings about the main subject of this blog.

The company NKOK has recently come out with RC versions of our favorite Super Mario Kart characters, and yes, they are on Go Karts. Now, coming from the “Super Mario Kart background”, these Remote Controlled vehicles are guaranteed to be a smash hit with the younger generations. There are a couple of different models for different ages. The less expensive “Karts” are great for younger children, ages 5-8 (or around that). These “Karts” feature forward, reverse, and left movements and have a relatively slow top speed. They are in the 1:32 Scale size. For the slightly older age group, we have the 1:12 scale “Karts”. I personally find these to be rather cool, as the included remote is a Nintendo GameCube remote. They feature right, left, forward, reverse and even have a “Turbo” mode. On top of that, they also feature “digitized sounds” from the game as you race them around. I can visualize it now… 2-3 Mario RC Karts flying around the house, racing in real life just like we did on the game… ah, memories.

We now have these available at FullFingerThrottle.com, just click on the RC Nintendo Toys category and enjoy! I hope these bring back as much fond memories for you as they have for me!

Electric RC Cars and SNOW!

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Splash Down!

Contrary to what i believed, it is actually not a good thing to race your Gas Powered RC Car or Truck through the snow. This is due to the many electronic components, for example, your remote radio receptor on the car itself. Obviously, this being the case, it is DEFINITELY NOT good to attempt to race your Electric RC Car through Snow or Water. This was true until Traxxas came out with their new E-Maxx.

I recently read an article in RC Driver about the new Traxxas E-Maxx, which has a new amazing feature. The new feature? It is an Electric RC Truck that has been WATERPROOFED! You read that right, WATERPROOFED! This gives it the capability of splashing through puddles, or even better, romping through the SNOW! Now, being that it just snowed about 2 ft here yesterday, and there is more on the way, this is exciting news to me! Anyone who loves the wonderful world of RC’s will find this to be very exciting because now you do not have to wait to drive you car until summer! You can play with it all year long! So, if you are looking for a fun winter hobby, check out the new Traxxas E-Maxx. I don’t have it for sell YET on my site, but I will in the near future. Keep checking back for more!

Wheely Happy!

Electric RC Car - A Great Beginner to Moderate Level Car

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

If you are not a beginner and just starting out driving RC cars, but you are not ready to jump into the hobbyist level of Gas Powered RC Cars, then the 4WD Rally Racing Skyline just might be the car you are looking for. With speeds of up to 40 mph, this high powered electric rc car features AWD, front and rear double wishbone suspension, a high powered 540 type electric motor, and is all powered by a 7.2v Ni 1800 SC rechargeable battery.

The difference between this car and other electric rc cars? Well, first off, you will notice it is a little more of an investment, running around $149.99 up to $189.99. Beginner electric rc cars run anywhere from $30 to $100. Also, the AWD feature and the higher powered motor and upgraded features. Beginner electric rc cars usually only hit top speeds of around 15-20mph or lower. The suspension system is another upgrade, featuring the double wishbone and coil spring damped suspension. The controller that comes with it also features a Liquid Crystal numeral display.

What kinds of terrain? Although i wouldn’t drive it through deep mud or puddles being that it is electric, this car should be fun to drive on pavement or light dirt terrain. Just make sure that you clean it thoroughly after driving in the dirt, as parts can wear out if you don’t take care of them. The standard rubber tires will allow more grip on pavement, and the advanced suspension would come in useful when performing small jumps on the rally (dirt) track.

How big is it? The is a 1:10 scale model, meaning it is roughly 1/10th the size of a real car. At approximately 17 inches long and 8 inches wide, it weighs approximately 14 pounds.

Is it RTR? This electric rc car does come ready to run, other than the 8 AA batteries needed to power the remote control and a quick charge up. Just take out the 7.2v Ni rechargeable battery pack, and the AC adapter, plug it in, charge it up, and go play!

Is it a good gift for my kids? I personally would not get this particular electric rc car for children under 12, unless you know that a car with speeds up to 40mph will not be problematic for them. There is a great selection of more novice electric rc cars, helicopters, planes, and boats on our site that would suit younger children better.

Electric RC Boat - Float or Fly? Why not both?

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

If driving on just land, cruising across just water, or just flying around in the air is getting boring, why not do all 3 with the 4 channel RC flying boat? This Electric RC Boat, called the Hydro Flyer, does all 3! So whether you are out at the lake, playing in your backyard, or have a lot of air to cover, consider it done! This is the ultimate RC vehicle for a fun hobby wherever you are at. It is rather sizable at 26.8 inches long and 16 inches wide, which in my opinion, makes it easier to keep an eye on as you fly it through the air, cruise across the lake, or up the beach.

The Hydro Flyer is full of features. It has a super tough, lightweight airframe molded out of plastic and foam construction, has a brushless motor, and a 4 channel transmitter receiver, backed by a standard 4 channel radio system. The Hydro Flyer comes 100% pre-assembled, making it RTR, and uses a high speed motor for faster speeds and to help it get off the ground. The propellers are expert designed for the best performance.

Where can i use it? Since it is designed for all terrains, you can virtually use this electric RC boat anywhere! If you are planning a trip to the lake, bring it along and race your boat with it. If you are going camping where there is a nice sized field, bring it along and show off its flight capabilities. Are you bored at home? Pull it out and give it a run in the back yard. I would not recommend running it on asphalt though, this could damage the plastic hull making it not as effective in the water, or possibly even put holes, making it unable to float.

How long does it take to charge? The Hydro Flyer takes 1 hour to charge, which gives you a full 20 - 35 minutes run time.

What age group is it most fitted for? The Hydro Flyer is probably most suitable for people above the age of 12. It has a higher powered motor and has the capability of flying, making it probably not the best vehicles for younger children.

What comes with it? Being RTR, it comes with everything you need to charge it up and go play. Included in the package is the instruction manual, 4 channel remote controller (8 AA batteries not included), 11.1V 1200Amh rechargeable battery, battery charge adapter (110V), and an extra propeller.

Electric RC Helicopter - Dyna Hawk GX: First Flight Review

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

The Dyna Hawk GX Kit

I recently had the pleasure of obtaining my very own Dyna Hawk GX: Blackguard. It came in a kit, ready to fly. Included in the kit was the helicopter, remote, AC adapter, rechargeable battery pack (Li-Po), 4 extra blades (2 for each rotor), a small screwdriver (used for tightening blades and other repairs), instruction manual, and a parts list. The first thing i did when i opened the kit was pull out the Dyna Hawk GX. After i had taken that out, looked it over, and straightened the blades correctly, I continued by pulling the rest of the contents out to make sure everything was there. Once i was finished checking, I grabbed the manual and read through it. Being that it was manufactured in China, the manual has both English and Chinese translations. Some of the instructions were a little confusing, but all-in-all, it guided me through the process of getting ready to fly. After reading the manual, the next step is to charge the Li-Po battery and obtain 8 AA batteries (not included) for the remote. The remote itself has 2 thumb-sticks. One of the thumb-sticks controls the throttle or “lift”, and the turns the helicopter or controls the “direction”. There is also 2 buttons under the throttle stick that you use to “tune” your helicopter in flight. These buttons are used to decrease the “spinning” and help your helicopter hover straight. (For further instruction, see the manual.)

After the battery is fully charged, follow the instructions to install it on the bottom of the Dyna Hawk GX. The trick is to get the wires that you plug the battery into “tucked” into the “cockpit” and out of the way. This is the only way to get the battery “clicked” into place and flush, no wires hanging. Once the battery is connected, the helicopter cockpit has a steady blinking light that shows the Dyna Hawk is ready. You are now “almost” ready for flight.

Install 8 AA batteries into you remote, screw on the antenna and extend it, then turn on you remote. Always keep the antenna extended all the way when in use. Not doing so could result in “loss of reception” which would cause you to lose control and crash. With both the battery installed and your remote on, gently ease the throttle stick forward (up), making both blades spin creating “lift”. If your helicopter’s blades spin, you are ready to fly after a few simple adjustments. (refer back to the manual for these adjustments.)

After the adjustments are made, it is time to have some fun! The Dyna Hawk GX is an “indoor” electric RC helicopter. It is not made for outdoor flight. My recommendation, (as well as the manufacturers) is to find a “wide-open” indoor area in which to fly it in. A great flight zone would be an indoor basketball court, free of any obstacles. Being impatient, and also due to bad weather, i decided to try mine out in my living room. ( i don’t recommend this and i will explain why later.)

At first, it took me a while to get used to the throttle. The manual suggests doing some training to get used to the flight controls and has several different exercises to master. I recommend doing these if you are a first time flyer. Once i got used to the throttle, i was quickly able to get the Dyna Hawk GX to hover around my living room. The turning reacts very quickly, sometimes over-turning, so feathering the “right” thumb-stick is crucial. Also, make sure that there are no drafts, open windows, or vents on in your flight zone. The slightest breeze can cause your Dyna Hawk GX to not fly correctly and lose control. With some practice, mastering the flight control with the Dyna Hawk GX comes quickly, and you will soon be flying around for the full charge of the battery.

Now, the reason i recommend not flying around obstacles: While the Dyna Hawk GX is a rather well built RC helicopter, especially for the price, it is not indestructible. Normally, if you lose throttle, it will drop straight down and bounce off the floor without much of a problem. But, if you happen to crash land into an object (lets say a couch for example), it can cause damage. When i crashed into a couch, the blades hit it and i broke the plastic inner shaft piece. This part is what makes the bottom blades spin the same speed as the top and helps prevent spin of the whole helicopter (acts as a tail rotor). If i hadn’t crashed into the couch, no damage would have been done. My mistake. Fortunately, a lot of “hobby shops” carry spare for parts and this part can be replaced for a minor investment. I personally chose an aluminum inner shaft piece so that this problem is less likely to occur again. I also will now only fly in “obstacle free” areas with plenty of space.

Bottom line, the Dyna Hawk GX is a great helicopter for beginner to intermediate flyer’s, ages 12 and up. The battery, fully charged, will last 10 - 15 minutes of solid flight and also charges relatively fast. This makes waiting between flights shorter and gives you more continuous fun. It is one of the better looking apache models and i have had several compliments on it already. With proper care and increased flight skills, I am sure that this particular electric RC helicopter will bring you plenty of enjoyment over time. To make it last longer, always recharge the battery right after flight exhaustion, and then give it 5 minutes before you take flight again to let the motor cool down. This will help prevent motor “burnout”. Also, never leave the battery uncharged for a lengthy period of time. Storing a Li-Po battery uncharged could cause it to be unable to hold a charge and results in having to replace the battery sooner than later. Batteries are not cheap. Occasionally air blast the Dyna Hawk GX down to get rid of any dust that might have attached to it. And always, always fly in an area completely free of obstacles to reduce the chance of damage when you crash. Do these things and the Dyna Hawk GX: Blackguard will remain another great addition to your arsenal of electric RC vehicles!

Electric RC Plane - Diversify Your Landing Options

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

If you are ready to take flight with an electric RC plane, but you don’t have a large field nearby to fly one, then the 4-channel Float and Land Plane might be the answer for you!The 4-Channel Float and Land Plane has the ability to take-off and land on both land and sea. This “specially designed” plane comes with landing gear for land, or wheels, and also comes with “floats” for landing on water. So whether you have a field to fly it in, or if you are going to the lake, you can take RC fun with you. All you have to do is remove and replace the landing gear for the terrain you are planning to use it on.

This plane has excellent control and stability, making it easier to learn with than more complex, more expensive planes. It is steady in flight and very easy to master. It also is a great plane for flying at slow speed. Flying at slow speed makes it easier to fly in restricted-space and low altitude situations, so if you are flying in a small field or above a small lake, you have better control. Overall, it is an outstanding Float plane and Land plane for all different ranges of flyer’s, skilled or not.

The 4-Channel Float and Land Plane comes ready to fly (RTF). It operates with an electric motor, powered by an 11.1v 1200mah Nimh battery. The maximum operating range is approximately 800 feet and has a 4-channel remote system. The dimensions of the plane are (approximately) 16 inches long, 19 inches wide, and 10 inches high. The package includes the manual, the remote (8 AA batteries NOT included), the battery pack, and the 110v home charger. It weighs in at about 23 pounds.

Like any RC plane or helicopter, i personally would not recommend this for children under the age of 12 for the simple fact that you are flying and any loss of control can be detrimental to your plane. But, regardless of age, there is a learning curve for all “first time” flyer’s. If you don’t want to risk the investment, there are plenty of electric RC planes from the price range of $30 and up. Select a little less expensive one and start you flight training in comfort of the lower cost.

The other option I would recommend, that helps with the learning curve, is to start out with an electric RC helicopter. RC helicopters are easier to get used to because they can hover making it easier to gain control, take-off, and land. But, regardless of the choice of vehicles you make, moving into the world of RC flight is an exhilarating way to take your RC fetish to the next level!

Come visit us to order the 4-Channel Float and Land Plane,, or to view our other inventory! We have a wide range of Electric RC cars, planes, helicopters, and boats!
